Wassily Chair Reupholstery
I found these very cool reproduction Wassily Chairs on craigslist this summer. The original fabric was completely rotten and so I decided to take on the project of recreating the straps. I choose to use a duck cloth canvas for durability. After taking the chairs apart, I saw that the originals had used window screen as reinforcement, this was a great solution to giving the straps stability and strength. After meticulous measurements and hours of sewing, I was able to create the replacement seats and straps. Putting the chairs back together was quite challenging, with my husbands assistance stretching the fabric tight enough to reinsert the bolts, the chairs came back together better than ever. They may not be as gorgeous as the Knoell leather originals, but they look fantastic in their office setting.
